Welcome to our little green space.

So why come up with a website called “The Green Urbanite”?

While exploring the web one day, I stumbled across a manifesto of sorts that a group had come up with to define the word “Urbanite.”  While most dictionaries will simply say “City dweller” they went on to explain that it was more than just that, it was a way of thinking and living that not only involved a respect for living within close proximity of others, but also embracing a lifestyle that was conscious of your impact on the environment as well as the lives of those who surround you. Sara and I are all educated, intelligent and involved women, but we are also moms.  Disparaging of no one, there is a certain hypersensitivity that you develop to your surroundings when you introduce your progeny to it.  I have always been aware of how my surroundings affect my mood, my inspirations, my general well-being; then my daughter came along and I went into hyper-drive.  I don’t want to shield her from the world, but I’d like to help make sure that it’s as decent a place to live in as I can impact.

So, welcome to 2 women’s little corner of the world.  We aren’t going to preach at you about death chemicals, ask you to eat only organic grass, or beat you with politics.  Instead, we are offering you insight into areas that we ourselves are interested and constantly exploring.   So, read, enjoy, participate and be part of the Green Urbanite.

A MESSAGE FOR 2012

2012 - are you serious?  It's hard to believe how much time has come and gone.  The Green Urbanite has seen some big changes in the last year that I'd like to share.

  1. Saturdays from May through November saw Sara and I at the Market Square Farmers' Market.  It is a big time and energy commitment, but we feel strongly about the need to keep the good green word out there.  We'll be back again this May, so make sure you look for us.
  2. 2011 also saw Sara and I growing out of our ability to do all of the Green Urbanite work from our homes.  So, we took the big step, and have rented some space.  We are off Broadway across from the Old Grey Cemetery, sharing space with A1 Lab Arts in the Center for Creative Minds.  With additional space we can finally start offering the classes you've been asking about - so keep an eye out!
  3. The end of the year saw our good friend Deborah making some life changes; one of those changes is that she won't be writing with us anymore.  While we will definitely miss Deb and her views, we understand that there is only so much time in the day and something had to give.
  4. Finally, we are giving you the opportunity to buy the awesome Green Urbanite products that you have come to know and love from the Farmers' Market from the comfort of your nearest computer.  Take a minute to shop the store and keep the Green Urbanite girls going.  We do it all from the love in our heart and the art that we sell.
